Well, YHC thought it would be fun to see which training regimen is more challenging… the smooth, bourbon-drinking John Wick version or the chaotic, cheap-beer-swilling Johnny Lawrence version.   They each have their strengths, so we put it to the test.

Beginning with the obligatory mosey, we did some standard warm-ups and added in a short lunge/drop back leg stretch just for fun.   We then moseyed over to the front parking lot / drop off area at Creekview for a description of the exercises and formula.   Starting at the main entrance, we did 5 burpees, then ran to the Johnny Lawrence station for routine 1:

  • 100 speed punches while holding a deep air chair
  • 20 Knerckins while punching the ground between each merkin with your fist
  • 50 Boxcutters

Stop at the main entrance for 5 burpees again as we ran to the John Wick station for routine 1:

  • 20 Ranger Merkins
  • 25 Baryshnikov squats
  • 30 x-cross Sit ups

Back to Johny Lawrence station for routine 2 after stopping for the 5 burpees:

  • 25 each side of a back fist / punch combination while hopping
  • 30 ‘Break the Leg’ squats (crushing elbows in a downward direction as you do a deep squat, rise up and repeat)
  • 30 Weezie Jeffersons

5 burpees as we pass the main entrance again to John Wick routine 2:

20 T Merkins

Bolt 45s

25 War Hammers

Back to Johnny Lawrence for routine 3 (stop for 5 burpees again):

  • 30 back fist / punch / jumping Daniel-sons (not as simple as it sounds!)

5 burpees as we run back to John Wick for routine 3:

10 Gunners (a ‘hammer’, an ‘explosion’ and down the barrel)

  • 10 American Hammers
  • 10 Jump Squats
  • Sprint to the other side of the lane and repeat

Overall, a simple yet challenging full-body festival of fighting forms.    We made it back to the flag with 30 seconds remaining, so we finished with some crunchy frogs until the end.    Announcements made, prayer requests offered up and some good ole coffeeteria.   Not even realizing it was 22* was a win!   In the end, the winner of the more challenging beat down was….. wait for it… Johnny Lawrence!

We’ll have to schedule a rematch, or maybe Johnny will have to defend his title against The Rock or some other viable opponent.  Keep an eye out for that.
