As YHC was planning the Q for this distance-focused Amped(TM) beatdown, he desired to incorporate several principle ingredients:
1. focus on distance
2. ability to scale; works well with few or many PAX
3. challenges all regardless of current running ability
4. does not deter non-runners from participating
5. keeps the PAX together, leaves none behind
6. sandwiches
It really was number 6 there on the list that, appropriately in this illustration, brought the rest of the stack together. As many of us already know, life is better with sandwiches, and so I was curious how things would play out when applied to a 0530 Amped(TM) beatdown. I think things worked out pretty well.
We did a good bit of running, had a few stations of different exercises sprinkled in for some variety, and Players Choice sandwich toppings there in the middle (the hill between the schools).
Throughout, we adhered to these rules:
1. PAX stays as a loose group
2. modify (slow down or speed up) freely as needed
3. if you end up in front, circle back as needed to stay loosely grouped
4. if you end up in back, you’re doing great, just keep moving as you can. we’re with you.
Some quote-worthy dialog was had (with some liberties taken).
